HeyU is made by Shadow Particle AB. You can delete your HeyU account at any time, on any device, and you don't need to give a reason. If you no longer have the app, you can ask us by email instead.
In the app
The quickest way. It works the same on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android.
- Open HeyU and go to More.
- Tap Privacy & Security, then Delete Account.
- Read what will be deleted and tick the box to confirm.
- Sign in once more with the account you use for HeyU, so we know it's you.
Your account is deleted straight away, and you're signed out.
By email
If you can't use the app, for example because you no longer have it installed:
- Email support@shadowparticle.com with the subject "Delete my HeyU account".
- Send it from the email address of the Apple or Google account you sign in to HeyU with, so we can confirm it's you. If you use Hide My Email, tell us, and we'll find another way to confirm it.
We'll delete the account and email you when it's done, within one month at most.
What's deleted
Straight away, with the account:
- Your profile: name, date of birth, gender, photos and their captions, bio, prompt answers, tags, This or that picks, links and location.
- Your Connections and your chats, for both people, including the photos sent in them.
- Your Likes, Saves, Passes and feed history, and the likes you've received.
- Your verification data, your notification and privacy settings, and the devices registered for notifications.
- Your sign-in account.
- Any Saves and Rewinds you have left. They can't be refunded or moved to another account.
What's kept, and for how long
- Reports and moderation decisions are kept for as long as they're needed to keep HeyU safe, for example to recognise someone who returns after a ban, or to deal with a legal claim. We review them regularly and delete those we no longer need.
- Feedback you sent is kept while it's useful for improving HeyU.
- Purchase records are kept so a purchase or ad reward can never be credited twice, but they're no longer linked to your account.
- Other people's records may still contain your user ID, a random code, for example in their history of profiles they've decided on. Your profile itself is gone.
- Notifications already delivered to other people's devices stay on those devices.
- Backups and logs: crash reports are deleted within 90 days, server logs within 30 days, and analytics data within 14 months. Deleted data takes time to be removed from our providers' systems and backups. For Google Cloud, this is typically completed within about six months.
Your subscription
Deleting your account doesn't cancel a Plus or Unlimited subscription, because Apple or Google bills it, not HeyU. Cancel it where you bought it:
- App Store: Settings on your iPhone or iPad, your name, Subscriptions.
- Google Play: the Play Store app, your profile picture, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions.
Deleting only some of your data
You don't have to delete your account to remove things:
- Remove photos, captions, prompt answers, tags and links in your profile. Removed photos are deleted when you save.
- Turn off location access in your device's settings, and your stored location is deleted the next time you open HeyU.
- Hide your profile from feeds under More, Privacy & Security.
- Block someone to delete your chat with them, for both of you.
